History Grecanico is a group of Sicilian white Berry native grapes whose origins can be traced back to the common one for many southern grapes, namely the introduction to southern Italy by the colonial Greeks of the 7th century BC. There is, however, no written information on the vine until the late Renaissance when in 1696 Cupani cited a vine called Grecani. In 1835, instead, Abbot Jeremiah described it in his treatise, "Stafulegrafia", indicating its location in the town of Randazzo and more generally in the whole of Trapani. In this description the abbot also reported some suffering to the acinification and to the casting.
