History Zweigelt is a red wine grape variety developed in 1922, at the Federal Institute for Viticulture and Pomology at Klosterneuburg, Austria, by Fritz Zweigelt. It was a crossing of St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch. It 's the most widely planted red grape variety in Austria.
Features ampelographic Leaf: medium, trilobata. Bunch: medium, conical. Acino: medium-large size, ovoid shape, with consistent skin and blue-black color.
Features wine The wine obtained from the zweigelt vine is ruby red, intense. On the palate it is sapid, fruity, tannic.
Notes Resistance to biotic and abiotic adversities: not sensitive to ozone and mildew; Little to moderately sensitive to botrytis. Variety characterized by a high resistance to winter frosts.
