History
Abbiamo testimonianze della produzione di vino nel territorio di Castagneto Carducci sia in epoca Etrusca che Romana. Il nome "Bolgheri" deriva da un insediamento militare di Bulgari alleati dei Longobardi, ora conosciuto come Castello di Bolgheri.
Geographical production area
E' possibile produrre vini Bolgheri DOC esclusivamente nel comune di Castagneto Carducci al centro della Maremma Livornese, ad esclusione della sotto-zona specificata nella DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia.
Soil composition
I terreni a Bolgheri sono vari:
+ alluvionali di origine fluviale, con grossi sassi rotondi depositati da antichi corsi d'acqua ora asciutti.
+ suoli argillosi, argillo-sabbiosi o sabbiosi in vicinanza al mare
Origin
Fascia collinare tra i 250 e i 400 m slm. con il mar Tirreno ad Ovest. Il microclima di Bolgheri è fortemente influenzato dal mare che mitiga il clima permettendo una maturazione dell'uva lenta e regolare.
