Souzao, also known as Vinho, is a grape variety that originated in Portugal, specifically in the Minho regions. The Vinho Verde region grows both white wine and red wines, with forty percent of its produce are red wines. The vineyards that grow the Vinh"o grape spread towards the region of Douro, where the grape was then referred to as Souzao. Although the Souzao grape originated in Portugal, it is most grown in California, Australia, Spain and South Africa. In Spain, it is grown in the region of Galicia wherein it is referred to by several names such as Sousao, Souzao and Souson. |
